About this project
What happens when an industrial boiler goes too long without proper water treatment? You get a firsthand look in this video.
Watch as we pull the entire tube bundle core out of a fire-tube boiler shell for inspection. Due to prolonged hard water operation, massive layers of calcification and calcium carbonate scale have built up on the outer surfaces of the tubes. As the core is extracted, you can see chunks of this thick, crusty mineral scale flaking off and piling up on the ground.
The second half of the video shows the interior of the shell, completely choked with loose debris. Heavy scale accumulation like this acts as a barrier to heat transfer, drastically dropping efficiency, driving up fuel costs, and running a high risk of tube overheating and failure. This unit is in serious need of mechanical and chemical descaling before it can ever go back into service.
